Not All Who Wander Are Lost… Everything you ever wanted to know about my Dominican mission work

Safe Arrival…

What a day! After waiting in 40 degree 1:30 a.m. weather for the bus to arrive, we had a long, quiet ride to the Detroit airport, a quick layover in Atlanta and safe arrival in the Dominican Republic early this afternoon!

Everything I need for 8 days and 7 nights!

By the time we gathered all the luggage and supplies, got through customs, drove along the coast to our hotel, unloaded and checked in, it was about 4pm… just enough time for a dip in the pool before supper. I had the “shrimp casserole” which is more like a rice and shrimp soup, but pretty good. The cost, before the tip, was 525 pesos, which is around $13.50 in U.S. dollars.

The hotel we’re staying at tonight, Fiesta Dominican Hotel and Casino, is very nice. I have a king sized room all to myself… HEAVEN! We have air conditioning and modern amenities… but you can’t drink the water, or even brush your teeth with it!

Tomorrow morning, we’ll have a breakfast buffet and then hit the road for the 3-4 hour bus ride North and West from the capital city of Santo Domingo to San Juan de la Maguana. Even though we know our accommodations won’t be this comfortable, everyone is looking forward to “getting started” on our week of mission work.

  1. I hope to do a mission trip sometime soon. Maybe next year.

  2. So glad you arrived safe and sound. I love your blog and am so impressed that you did one. Can’t wait to hear the next update. Kelli
